I cleaned mine yesterday.
I used....

A "tank" top (hehehe). Those tanks are DEEP. No deodorant on fish day <g>

2 30 gallon garbage cans (one for aging water, one for removing water)
A siphon hose
A gravel vac attachment
Chlorine/chloramine remover
Plant pruning tools (sciz, tweez, rake)
Waste can for plant trimmings
Algae scraper
Many towels for drips
A quilt on the floor for drips
Air pump and airstone for aging water
A water pump for moving the water (I'm too old to schlep)
Filter media
Filter tube brushes
A spare 5 gallon bucket for rinsing stuff in dechlored water
A small step stool for deep reaching
A clamp for securing siphon hose to inside of garbage can... don't ask

Many of my items could be eliminated by using a Python system if tap water
is OK for your water changes.
I prefer to age my water so don't mind the extra steps.
All my garbage cans stack and my accessories store inside them. I pull the
cans out of their closet and have everything I need handy and organized...
I'm annoying that way <g>

In my experience the only way to know what you'll really need is to do it a
few times. You'll get tired of hunting for something every two minutes and
organize your stuff to *your* methods.

Hehehe....I use.....

An open window (just a crack) that the end of the syphon goes out of.
Plants love fish water!
de-chlor
plant food
and water from the tap (ours is some good stuff here)

When I need to prune the plants I use a plastic bowl for the snips.

I do this every friday and every 3rd change the filter.

Vicki

Tank top is the thing tho. I hate soggy sleeves.

I like to use the paint scrapers that can be found in the decorating
department of the hardware store.
For non-flat situations, I use an soap free pot scrubby. Both of these may
harm acrylic and the scraper could damage glass over a number of years.
Cheap, effective, and sturdy when compared to the aquarium store's
offerings.
