The only fish I can think of that I have any experience with that fits your
requirements is Hara jerdoni.
If you could expand your size, there would be more to choose from. The does
well alone and likes hiding part can be found in just about every group of
fish but that 2 inch criteria is the stickler.
And as coelacanth says, you are actively searching for a fish that would
tick off most other hobbyists.

Not anti-social in the sense that they are shy and boring but in the
sense that they don't need a school of other fish to be happy. The
more I think about it the more the description begins to sound like me
:)....
