Actually it's an excellent question.
Loaches have no teeth in their jaws but they
do have special tooth like structures in their
throats (pharyngeal teeth) that they use to grind
their food. Many fish, such as carp, have these
special teeth.

I've read many archive posts where loaches have nipped bites out of
Amazon sword plants and out of Angelfish's fins. This suggests that they
are able to use their tooth (I think loaches have one tooth as opposed to
many grinding teeth) to do damage outside their mouth/throat cavity.
Other than having been bitten by a red-tail botia, I have no other
personal supporting evidence though.

I've heard about these teeth in my Goldfish reading... fascinating!
Do you (or anyone) know of a good website that has detailed anatomical
photos (or even good drawings) of fish anatomy?
Like a fishie Gray's Anatomy?
