In my 46 g bow front the GH has been rising to it's present reading of
19gDH. It used to be lower. Not too long ago I put in a piece of drift wood
and added co2 Would any of these things two make a difference like that.
*Before* the addition of these two my snails seemed healthy, now their
shells turn white. So apparently they need more calicum now? If I add
something for calicum will that change anything else? Thanks for your input.

I suggest you measure your calcium, subtract from your gH to get your
magnesium content (I think that's how it works, magnesium being the most
predominant mineral after calcium). Don't invertebrates need iodine, or
is it only shrimps?

The gH rising is associated with water replacement of evaporation, or
with minerals (rocks or substrate) which leech calcium into the water.
Some salts (ie: for marine tanks) are high in calcium. Driftwood should
cause a negligible reduction in gH. CO2 injection would have no effect
on gH that I'm aware of. hth
