Does anyone here have a freshwater crab or had one? I saw one at the
fish shop today and they look pretty exciting, am seriously considering
getting one expect for the fact that I already have a crayfish and I
don't really want them to do battle - I want my crayfish in 1 peice! So
just after anyone's experiances with them?

What type of crab was it? There are fully aquatic & semi-aquatic. You have
to make sure you have the correct tank setup for the right crab.

There are three common crabs in US fish stores.
1. Fiddler Crab (characterized by a large claw on the male). These must
get out of the water or they will perish.
2. Red Claw. I have not kept these. They are considered hardy, but some
indicate they cannot live submerged...I was told otherwise by someone else.
3. Thai. These are large. I tried to keep them twice, but in both cases
they survived no more than a week.
Here is a comment from a hobbyist:
"Nearly all crabs sold in the aquarium trade as "freshwater" crabs are
neither freshwater nor aquatic. Most/all of them will die if forced to live
completely underwater in a freshwater aquarium. There are a few (a couple
Cardisoma sp., some Gercarcinus sp., Pseudosesarma moeshi (formerly Sesarma
bidens) that will get by without sal****er, but all of these absolutely
require land access."
