View Full Version : egg bound barb?

I have a 70 gal tank with 8~10 adult cherry barbs. Two females are
seriously egg bound to the point where I think death is inevitable. I feed
the tank once a day - flake food with frozen supplements twice a week. The
two female barbs are both eating and other than being extremely FAT, they
act "normal". There are several young barbs (maybe 10) in various stages of
adolescence that have survived. There are two bright red males (displaying
mating color) and my water parameters seem alright. The tank has been
established for over a year.
Ph 6.8, KH 4, ammonia 0, Nitrate 5ppm. Tank is heavily planted and CO2
injected. There are many places to hide and the tankmates are all community
fish that get along (zebras, cardinals etc). Dropsey doesn't seem to be a
factor... the fish show no classic signs. If you conclude that this is
indeed a case of being egg bound, what should I do? I have a hospital tank
that I could move them to, but I don't know that it would help?

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
