Hi! I recently upgraded my 10 gallon tank which had 4 platties, 6 zebra
danios and 2 cories, to a 55 gallon tank (for my birthday last month). But
now I notice, like all my zebra danios who used to school together are now
all over the tank and not really hanging out together anymore and stuff.
it's like they are getting lost and seperated and all confused. so now I'm
wondering if maybe the tank is too big for these little guys, and maybe I
either need more of them or should these small fishes only be in smaller
tanks? do you think they like the big tank? cause I thought they were
playing together when they all played follow-me in the 10 gallon.

I have danios in 4 tanks, ranging from 10 to 75 gallons, and none of them
exhibit much in the way of schooling behavior. Most of them seem to follow
the common danio behavior, i.e. race around madly like they haven't a brain
in thier heads. They seem fine and happy, and spawn with regularity.

Imagine your apartment walls were removed so that your living area was
now 5 times larger. I think your fish are very pleased with the change,
but are a little disoriented with all the extra space. Adding more Zebra
danios would (I think) be a very good idea, as it would reset their
chase/hide strategies to the new dimensions.

ps: some of their chase 'playing' would also have been the males pursuing
the females, so I suspect that some of them are especially happy with
getting a bit of a break.
