Got back from the honeymoon, ty, and all is well with friends tank, but
still only has 2 babies... and that's ok too, but upon closer inspection,
the daddy, has some weird ragginess to his tail, that was NOT there before I
left... everyone has been well, babies are bigger, and learning to be
faster, will probably go home with me at some point...

My question is, do fan tailed males get raggy at old age, or is he just
getting stressed??? If so, I'm taking the babies home and giving him time to
rest....

Any other ideas would be apprecited, and suggestions too.... Thanks.

There is a disease that affects guppies tails - I can't remember the
name of it. It's pretty ghastly - their tails just seem to melt away.
I've lost a few that way. I hope yours doesn't have it, but treat it for
tailrot anyway.

I dropped in some bicarbonate to raise the pH quickly, and the fish
recovered. I also went back to using tap water.

I think as long as the pH stays above 6.0 that the guppies should be
okay, higher is better. I have read that a sudden change is worse
that a bad level, but I don't have any experience to say one way or
the other. I can say that below 4.5 is crazy.
