Anyone have any experience with this?

Looks like a sal****er setup to me. You could ask on
the sal****er group.

What would make this a sal****er hood? It has 4 compact fluorescent bulbs,
perfect for a heavily planted tank.

Well, I suppose you could use it for a heavily planted tank, too.
But, then you will also need to add CO2 so that plants can take
advantage of the high light, otherwise you have algae blooms.
And, you have to go nuts pruning the plants every week (which
nobody seems to mention as a chore when doing aquatic gardening).

I have seen lighting setups like these used on sal****er and reef
aquaria. I have not seen them being used on freshwater tanks.

Me, I prefer low-maintainence plant tanks. I maintain only 2 - 2.5
Watts per gallon, no CO2 and I only have to prune once a month.

It's equipped with 2-65watt 10K white and 2-65watt 7100K blue bulbs
(actinic bulbs). Definitely a marine set-up, but if the bulbs are
available, you could refit it for a freshwater planted tank, (dialing the
light spectrum down a bit).

Some info here:

.... or if you want something with more technical grit ;~)

I'd personally have reservations about this canopy until I knew the cost
& availability of the bulbs I'd be needing. It's still a lot of lumens
over a small area, averaging 6 sq.ft (ie: 4'x18"), or 43w/ft2 (over
4wpg). Could be a nice canopy for deep tanks (more than 24" deep). Add
CO2 and it would be a part-time job involving a machete every week ;~)
