Hi All - I read somewhere that fish love liver. I've placed some on a thread
and it's hanging in the water - and sure the fish are going for it! Question
how long should I leave the liver in the water?
TIA - Dave

Use only tiny pieces that the fish will eat quickly. Liver spoils VERY
quickly (I'm a chef I know these things) and you don't want any sitting in
the tank uneaten.

I wouldn't leave it longer than an hour or so. Hanging meat from a
string is a very old fashioned way of feeding fish, but y'know, the fish
still like it! Liver is very nutritious, but you might find you need to
increase the frequency of your water changes as the juices do tend to
pollute the tank.

Rinse it really well in lots of cold water, squeeze out the extra juices
under the water in the sink. Squeeze it out a bit when you take it out of
the sink, then feed it to the fish. Pretty much the opposite of what you'd
do if you were going to eat it yourself (blech). This should rid it of a lot
of the extra juices, and it shouldn't pollute the tank water as much. This
won't affect the nutritional values of the liver in any appreciable way. It
would just be dry if you cooked it, the juices are like 99.5% water.
