Kudos to you for coming and asking, and the more you research, the more you
know... After a while, you'll quit asking the LFS what they think, because
alot of times, they are there to sell fish, not help you keep your fish
alive.. "yeah, just put that oscar in with the rest of your community tank,
it won't get too big, or eat any thing...."
there is no NEED for a second angel, and if you added one, you 'could'
possibly be creating a bigger problem, breeding and aggression toward the
female angel... it happens, but YMMV...
I'm not an angel keeper, nor know much about them, but there are ppl here
who can answer the rest of your tetra questions fine.... What I HAVE heard,
is neon tetras are their favorite food, and if you keep angels with them,
you'll get to buy a dozen or so a month for them.... 12 today, 6
tomorrow.... none in a month..
good luck...

An angel will be fine by itself. I would check tetra tankmates to see if
they are known fin nippers, and also be sure they are a little larger than
neons. I keep cherry barbs with my angelfish without problems, so tankmates
don't need to be a whole lot larger than neons. Lemon tetras work great in
my experience.

I keep a single angel with some silver dollars about the same size. I
originally bought three angels, but the current one killed the others. A few
months later, I tried some more angels that were about the same size. Then
he killed those too. Needless to say, he will never see another of his own
kind again. He seems happy with the friends he has now. They will probably
eat small tetras, unless they were raised with tetras as tankmates, but
ymmv.

I think that Angels are considered semi-aggressive... I don't have any mind
you, but I have 2 gouramis, the only tetra that has survived them are black
skirt tetras. They're on the larger size and manage just fine :) And I
think they're pretty, lol.

it depends on the type of tetras you'll be keeping. skirted tetra's are alot
different from neon tetras, which incidentally happen to be a favorite live food
of angels... :)

You can house Angelfish and Neons/Cardinals together. However, there's a trick
to it.
First, the Neons should be max size (1 1/2 inches long). The Angels must start
out small, about quarter body size (not including fins). The Angels quickly
learn that they're not food.
I also wouldn't feed live food (unless it's worms) to Angels being housed with
Neons.
One of the prettiest tanks I had was an Angelfish tank with a school of Neons
and black gravel. It was lovely!
Now once the Angelfish are grown and can easily fit a Neon into it's
mouth....they don't. They're tank mates.
When doing this, and adding new Neons...theu must *not* be smaller than max
size, and when adding a new Angelfish...they must be quarter body size to start
too.
This right there may cause problems with resident, larger Angelfish (adding
young, small ones), and they be picked on.
However, it can be done...as long as it's done right, and it's gorgeous!

I don't know why everyone says Neons are a fav food of Angelfish. Anything that
can fit into an Angel's mouth is a fav food. = )~

I keep three Angels with four kribs and dwarf gouramis. I am not sure
what a tiger tetra is so you should look them up on the net and see if
they are fin nippers. Look for a dwarf pleco variety that will not
outgrow your tank and you will be happy.

I recently purchaced my first aquarium, 29 gallons, and would like to
start a community tank. After doing some research on compatability I
think I've decided to start with the following:
1 Angelfish
6 larger tetras
1 pleco
I haven't been able to find a good answer on if it's ok to have just the
one angel or if it needs a pair. The lady at the fish store said all
fish needs friends (that seemed a little over simplified). I would
really hate to get two only to have them kill each other. Also, from
what I've read on the net it seems to be ok to keep tetra with angelfish
but a salesman at a local shop said I shouldn't keep any kind of tetra
with angels.
I would just like to know if this seems to be an ok setup. I'm certainly
not married to this exact setup, I would just like minimize potential
problems from the get go.
Thanks.
