Hi again. Is anyone on this forum in the know about a safe fungus medicine to
treat an "Elephant nose" that has develloped tail fungus? The poor thing is
chasing his tail like a dog would a good part of the day, it has a fair
appetite when I feed it it's frozen brine shrimp & bloodworms but than returns
to chasing it's tail.
In the posts on mormyrids they caution against most fish medication being to
harsh for this type of fish! So , if anyone knows any sites or has any
personal experiance or any other advice for me on this mather please respond
a.s.a.p. in this forum or by E-mial. I would greatly appreciate any advice,
because I'm stumped T.I.A. and regards Art

If you will go to a good fish store and request a fungus cure for a
scaleless fish (Elephant Nose, Baby Whale, African Butterfly, etc), they
will help. It was so many years ago, I forget what I used....

I miss Jim too. Fungus on the Morymirid species can be safely treated with
stabilized chlorine oxides, but I haven't used it in so long I forgot the
brand name ? Something like " mar-oxy" I think ? Anybody know for sure ?

Thanks Keith.I'am on my way to my LFS.
I hope they have it , or at least heard of it.
So far the malycite green seams to have stopped further spread of the fungus
but no improvement is evident nor do I see signs of distress , so far so good.
These exotic fishes are interesting to keep, but are a pain in the butt when
something goes wrong with them I'll post results if any for anyone having the
same/similar problem in the future. Thanks so far to all who responded, at
least I can start trying some thing Regards Art

Sorry, but I forgot to thank Red Foreman for his help on sugesting "Jungle's
Fungus Eliminator", but I had wify breathing down my neck to use the puter and
since my one fingered typing skill has only one way of rushing "quit"I
neglected to thank Red
However I did remember to pick up some
"Jungle Fungus stuff"! I have some "melafix" already and I will try that later
after the problem has been erased. The reason I got the problem in the first
place is because my water quality was most likely not wat it should be, but
with 5 other hobbies sometime 1 or more get neglected. Jugling 6 hobbies I
have to set some priorities I guess. Anyway I am rattling on. Thanks again to
all who responded and I will post results should any devellop other than
mormy's demise

still a newbie, always a newbie...

I know what you mean about too many hobbies... My wife tells me one of these
days, she's gonna clean house and cash in on all my hobbies.... I said, as
long as you get me a 65-72 model GTO, with atleast a 400, maybe a 455 V8 in
it, ragtop or coupe, doesn't matter the color or... and I see her walking
away.... rolling her eyes....

I really should stop collecting collections....

Curently I'am treating the situation with melafix . Looks good so far! A word
to the wise,Melafix for aquariums sells here in can. for 7 cad's for 4 ounces
with 1% active ingridient but also melafix for ponds at 6 cad's /4ounces with
5% act. ingt. that's 5x strengt at a dollar less/4 ounces.
I will post results of treatment when I'am fairly sure about it ,Around 7 day's

I believe it was beneficial to a point but I did not observe the regrowth
melafix claims to occur with its use.
However the problem has been eliminated I hope:-) and I'am glad he/she is again
happely swimming around even tho part of it's tail is now missing. I am now
about to set up an 65 gal tank soon as I finnish building a cariole legged
stand for it in oak ( 90% completed ) pretty tricky to maintain the nessesary
strength and still keep the slender look of victorian furniture. once set up I
hope to house an "African knife fish" among others in it, still deciding on
what.
Thanks for your interest Keith and regards
Art
