Yep, they are eggs, and the male is guarding them. They won't make it in the
community tank, they are targets when they hatch. I move my eggs (using a
razorblade) to a tank to hatch them. Or, if feasible, you can remove all the
fish and leave the whiptails in with the eggs :)
