View Full Version : How attached are you to YOUR pl*co???

I've had a 29g going for over 2 years now, first tank, best results from
that tank.... Well, my first pl*co, was 2.5" when I asked my then girlfriend
to stop and get us one... that one lasted 2 months, and later learned that
was too small to be buying them... next one got at 4" and so far, he's grown
to 13" and is still in that 29, although, he's alone with 2 2yo clowns....
they sleep right next to him... on top of him.... underneath him.... but
always somewhere near him.... he's never even gave them a second look, never
gets spooked by or with them....
Last night, I was moving a plant around that he wanted somewhere else, when
I noticed, he'd attached himself to my underarm... no pain, just a sandpaper
scratching pinch... I left it there for a second, he then realized what or
who he was attached to.. and gently released and connected to the glass
again.... I reached down and pet him as I often do.... he blinked....
I've never said it, but I'm in no hurry to put more fish in that tank
because I'm so so attached to the clowns, and Jaws, the pl*co....
I call my clowns Spike and Louis (loo-E) as I say it... comes from a kibbles
and bits commercial... where the little dog jumps over the big bull dog, and
does virtual loops which is exactly what these clowns do....
I love my pl*co...
ok, I'm done.... ;-)

Sounds like a really cool relationship! I have a bunch of ancistrus, about 8
albino and one regular. The regular guy is a total wimp and is never in
sight. He comes out at night to eat and spends the rest of his time in a
cave with the clown loaches.
I like them ok... :)

My albino bristlenose is a spooook... she'll come and hang on the front
glass, and the only way you can watch her is if you literally sneak up on
her... and they feel the floor so well, you cant.... but did recently, and
was sitting and watching as she knawed away at a wafer.. I sneezed, he whole
tank got cloudy for a second while she vanished in a flurry of algae wafer
bits going everywhere....

My bulldog hangs out in the shadows when the lights are on.
My Clown......I never see. I have to shake out the logs every couple weeks
to make sure he's still alive.

Our Pleco's name is Gonzo and he is my husbands favorite fish. I can't
see having a tank without at least one.

I have a pair of bristlenose that I like. They keep the tank glass clean,
hang upside-down from rocks or sticks , etc. They are fun to watch.
My new favorites are some Gastromyzon sp. " Lizard catfish" I got at my LFS.
The lizard cats are VERY cool looking, imagine a pl*co with a suction cup
along the whole underside of it's body instead of just the mouth. They clean
the glass like the bristlenose, hang upside-down, etc. too.
The coolest part is that when the lizard cats sit on top of large rocks,
they look just like lizzards without legs. They sit frozen in place,
following you with their eyes, just like a gecko or an iguana would.
I imagine they're thinking " If I don't move, he can't see me. "

Gastromyzon sp., well surprise it's a loach not a pl*co.
The Borneo loach or hillstream loach gastromyzon sp. is commonly named the
hong kong pl*co in my area. when it's up at the front of the glass you can
see it's heart beat right?
check this site out:

they have about 5 or 6 different names for them as well.
