What is your criteria? On a technical basis, look for : wheat germ,
krill, spiralina, vitamins & low in ash or phosphates. Protein levels
give some indication of quality levels, pellets being typically 28% to
36% and flake foods going to about 48%. In nature, fish have a low fat
high fibre diet, which ironically is expressed in reverse on processed
fish foods. Fat is usually expressed as a guaranteed minimum and fibre
as a guaranteed maximum.... very strange.

"What Netmax said" - but my personal preference is Tetramin Pro
Crisps - they are little round flakes and they stay crisp right
to the bottom of the packet, they also don't disintegrate in the
tank as fast, and the packet never gets that nasty damp flake smell.
My fish love them and I do too.
(Erk, how much like an advert does that sound?!)

I'm glad you said that. I'm trying Tetramin Pro Crisps for
the first time.

I'm a big fan of the crisps too.

You mean for regular, everyday feeding?
I use brineshrimpdirect's "deli" flake and/or HBH flakes.
Both are higher quality than any commercial flake foods.
Also, more expensive.

As always, Max is the voice of wisdom, but I would add one more
criterion: palatability. I found that my Endler's hate every specialized
"livebearer" food I've tried. They love the TetraMin Crisps almost
as much as live brine shrimp.

ditto that. My Endlers will not eat or at least do not appear to eat the
normal live bearer food. They love BBS, quality flake etc, but not the
livebearer.

For big needs buy flake in large lots of around one kilo to five pounds
at a time. Lots of on-line shops sell this way. Use your freezer to
keep it fresh. For small quantity the best I have found is the Tetramin
Crisps.....all my fish readily accept them and you do not have the
problems with regular flake breaking down into powder or have the usual
flake size issues.
