Well we're moving to chicago here in a couple weeks and plan on taking the
29g with fish. As a matter of fact at this very instant my girlfriend just
got word that we've been approved for the apartment we wanted ...whew..OK so
Im wondering if anyone has any heads up as to the water quality (you know
hard/soft/clear/brown all that good stuff) of the chicago public water
source(s). I know I can contact the city and find out but I thought I'd
check you guys and gals out first. Cheers, Brian

Hello Brian.
Having once lived in Chicago, and now in the burbs, I long for lake Michigan
water (Chicago's source). I now have liquid rock, I mean city well water. I'm
lucky to get a pH of 8.0! It's usually 8.2-8.4
It's a problem for me because I fancy softer water fishes, such as Angelfish
abd Bettas. They both adjust well to the higher pH, but the difficulties arise
when spawning/raising them.
Chicago's water is closer to a neutral 7.?
Most fish can adjust to Chicago's water fine.
What type of fish are you bringing to the big city?
Congrats on the apartment, and welcome!
Try not to get lost in the city. It could take days to find your way out, LOL.

Thanks for the info TYNK. Im bringing two clown loaches, and a clown pl*ec,
and most likely the dithers (four pearl danios, some mnt.cld.minnows, and
three painted swordtails). Did you use the lakes water in your tank? Im
considering just buying water for the tank initially for the first month or
so, just until the transistion dust settles that is. Cheers, Brian
