Anybody knows here if ceramic filter medium like
Ehfisubstrat or similar get clogged and loses its
original huge working surface compared to bio-balls?
Does Eheim recommend replacing their ceramic over time?

Eheim says to replace the sintered glass substrate, seems the glass has
microscopic porse that fill with gunk. I saw a method of clearing these
via use of the microwave oven, something about as the water in the glass
heats up it blows the gunk out (not sure the effect on the MW though!).
Eheim don't make reference to the spaghetti bottom substrate,IMHO I
doubt if it would ever need replacement, except for the odd broken bit.

Would you be so kind and point me to the source of this info?
I have searched Eheim's website and could not find it.
Is this recommendation formal? How often should I replace substrate?
