Okay, this is getting downright scary. I just posted regarding the
trouble in my tank and now I have another disturbing situation. 10
gallon tank, inhabitants - 3 Leopard Danios, 2 female Bettas, Mystery
Snail and Ghost Shrimp. The small Betta I added a couple of weeks ago
has disappeared..not a shred, a fin, nothing I can see left of her.
When they were fed yesterday afternoon she was there and eating like
normal, last night I discovered her missing. I looked under every
plant, ornament, on the surrounding floor, even in the internal filter
I recently added...nothing. She was healthy and having absolutely no
problems, having spent 3 weeks in quarantine (I purchased her on
8/28/03). I suspect the others consumed her as that is all I can
think with no evidence left. Can a healthy fish just up and die in
this short amount of time? Even more disturbing, could the others
have disposed of the body that fast? She was pretty tiny...named Cindy
Who because of her small size. I know I get attached fast, but this
sucks big time, pardon my french.

It would seem as if this tank is recently cursed. This is the third
death in 1 1/2 months, the other 2 were Zebra Danios. I am at a loss
and ready to give all away and give up. Parameters are all within
range, 0ppm ammonia, 20ppm nitrates, PH at about 7.6, and filtered by
a Mini Bio-Wheel (and the internal filter I added last week as a
hospital back up). I change 20% of the water weekly as I vacumn.

Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.

I would guess that the fish jumped out of the tank.. Do you have a hood on
it? Bettas have some sort of reputation for jumping I think.

Hi and thanks for the reply. There is a hood...the only open spaces
are by where the filter hangs and it would have been quite a jump for
her. She was small and I never saw her jumping. Just to be sure I
have checked the surrounding areas again and nothing. It may very
well remain a sad mystery.

Thanks again.

Yeah I had a Platy jump out of a hospital tank(about 3 inches to the lip)
and flop down a flight of stairs. I found him in time, and he's well now.
But it took me about 20 minutes of searching to find him.

If she died in the tank...the Ghost Shrimps would "clean" her up well...and
surprisingly fast!
