Yeah, it's a beautiful fish.
It's also got a short natural life-span (three years if you're lucky),
is about as prone to disease and death as fancy discus, and also has
about the same demands on water and temperature. Most of the rams you
can find are mass-produced in south-east asia, meaning they are
heavily inbred and have been raised in ponds constantly dosed with
antibiotics, in turn meaning they are sensitive to pretty much
everything.
If you intend to breed them, it is not too hard to get them to spawn,
but rams are about as good parents as angelfish or fancy discus (ie
not) and it is difficult to get the fry to survive.
It is a timid fish, except against other rams, and tend to be bullied
by any aggressive or semi-aggressive fish you might have.
I'm not saying you shouldn't get rams, but be aware that it's a
difficult and shortlived fish.
I've never kept wild-caught rams, they may be hardier and better
parents, I do not know.
A far more robust and healthy fish is the bolivian ram, which,
unfortunately, is also slightly larger, slightly more aggressive, and
slightly less colorful.

Yeah. Blue rams do display very beautiful color in certain conditions.
I have a pair in a 10-g tank and they just laid about 100 to 150 eggs last
night. Despite of the difficulty to keep the fry, you'd got the chance to
see their abundant body language when they are mating.
