Got this from one of those lists of unique answers kids sometimes put on
quizzes and tests.

Q: Explain one of the processes by which water can be made safe to drink.
A: Flirtation makes water safe to drink because it removes large
pollutants like grit, sand, dead sheep and canoeists.

Silly me, I have only been worried about ammonia and mulm!!

Well, it really depends on what is in the water that is making it unsafe
to drink.

While filtration can do a nice job on organics and bacteria, it doesn't
do much for viri.

I'd probably chlorinate (kills most buggies), filter at 2.0 micron then
charcoal filter it.

Either that or distill it with a real slow ramp up to boiling (and not
collect any take during that period).
