View Full Version : Intestinal Parasite Remedy

I've lost a few fish recently from both bloating and shrinking abdomens. I
reckon I've got a bad dose of more than one type of intestinal parasite
within my community tank (no isolation tank for new fish, yet). What's a
good treatment that would be likely to knock out a broad range of potential
culprits? (The tank includes clown and black khuli loaches and the usual
range of community fish.) Thanks.

Metronidazole- either in the food (which is best) or in the water column.

You could even try a couple of drops of Garlic oil in their flakes...Garlic
is a great killer of parasites. Nutritious for the little fishies Too.

From the above referenced link:
"Metronidazole is the active ingredient in several commercial aquarium
products, including Hex-a-mit, Hex Out, and Paragon II. By prescription, its
commercial name is Flagyl. Metronidazole is available in powdered form from
Seachem, and crystalline form at http://www.fishyfarmacy.com/. "
