Hi I've read on here before that many of you consider certain brands of food
to be inferior to others. I was just hoping to get some recommendations as
to what you use, and what you avoid at all costs. Thanks for any help. Oh,
if you need to know I have a community tank with a slight lean towards
semi-aggressive. TIA --Jim--

I use Hikari (dry and frozen), New Life Spectrum Dry, Ocean Nutrition (dry
and frozen), and a whole variety of other frozen delights- Wattley Discus
Formulas, mysis, brine shrimp, bloodworms. All of my goldfish foods come
from the Goldfish Connection.
I also keep live California Blackworms for the appropriate species, and
frequently offer zucchini, spinach, and peas.

What can I say?
My fish deserve the best!

I personally use Tetra Color and suppliment with a "variety pack" of frozen
foods I get at Petsmart. I have a wide assortment of fish in my community
tank and they all seem to like it plus it doesn't cloud the water. By the
way... if you decide to feed with the frozen "food cubes" may I recommend
using a old pot from a plant (the black ones that have all the open spaces)
with a wine bottle cork wedged across the top opening as a feeder. If you
just throw the cubes in there they sink and the top feeders can't get any
before the bottom feeders get their grubby little mouths on it. The pot
method allows top, mid and bottom feeders to all have a chance at the
bloodworms and brine shrimp plus it was FREE... unless you count the cost of
the plant that came in the pot and the bottle of wine ;-)

I've heard of zucchini, but spinach and peas? are they just tossed in fresh
or prepared somehow?
Is Ocean nutrition for sal****er fish? I'm currently using frozen brine and
bloodworms, also Wardley's tropical flakes, tropical crumbles, and shrimp
pellets, also some Hikari algae wafers, and I'm trying to breed guppies to
feed the Long nose Gar and eel my wife purchased...

Well I have two tanks..

A Malawi cichid (7) - Pleco (1, Clyde) -Crayfish (1, Cabby) tank
(and)
Black Knife Ghost Fish (1, Dog) - Tinfold Barb (3) - single Molly (1, Lucky,
there were 7 before the Tinfold barbs came) tank

Both tanks eat... Aquadine Flakes (website is www.aquadine.com) and I
usually drop a couple Wardley Spirulina Discs in the tanks for snacks.

Hope that helps.

The peas are microwaved and shelled- I originally started using them when I
got into Goldfish, but soon found out that my tropical tank loves them also.
Not just the bottom veggie eaters either- Cardinals, Rasboras, and even the
Discus will eat them. The spinach I use raw- just weight it down with
something and leave it overnight.

Ocean Nutrition is indeed formulated for sal****er fish, but came highly
recommended on SimplyDiscus.com so I tried it. I like variety and they eat
it really well, so ...
