Foam

Hi,
I have a 20 gallon fresh water tank in which I'm raising 6 Angels with the
hope of obtaining a breeding pair. The tank is heavyly planted and I feed
the Angels 2X a day and the plants once a week after a 25% water change.
Fish and plants seem to be doing fine.
Recently there has been a buildup of foam around where the airstone bubbles
meet the surface. The last 2 days the foam has covered 1/2 the tank's
surface.
Should I be concerned??

I know that the foam will inhibit the exchange of gasses in your tank. It
reduces the surface area were oxygen can be absorbed into your tank. Not
sure what causes it, but one guess would be excessive nitrates?

Many times this from a particular brand of dechlorinator.
Tetra's Aqua Safe is one...and I think Prime is another.

It sounds as if it could be undisolved organic compounds.
(fats/proteins) This type of film stays at the surface. When doing a
water change, this stuff sticks to the side of the tank where it can be
wiped away easily.

Oh, I know. However, I always ask what dechlorinator they are using first.
