Hello:
I have a Pristella maxillaris (X-ray tetra, red-tailed pristella) that has
something strange on his body in the caudal peduncle, just anterior of the
caudal fin. Where this part of the body is normally translucent, this fish's
caudal peduncle is filled with some kind of black tissue. Furthermore, it
looks like there may be an injury of some type on one side of the caudal
peduncle, but it is difficult to tell for sure. The caudal fin seems intact
and the fish is able to swim properly and zippily.
I wonder what it is. There are 10 of these tetras and 3 guppies in the
tank. The guppies fight/play with each other but I haven't seen them
fighting/playing with the tetras. Any ideas?
Thanks,
