Has anyone else ever had a problem with wide tank temperature fluctuations?
My tank can go from 84 during the day to 76 at night unless I try my best to
control it. I'd like to keep it 78-80 optimally with little or no
fluctuations but so far I haven't come up with anything that I could do to
work this out.

Typical drill-in-tank coolers are much too much of a hassle for a 15 gallon,
and if i keep the light on during the day i have virtually no need for a
heater, year round.

One thing I was going to try was to route some wire and use an old socket A
CPU heatsink + fan that I cleaned off... I'm sure that would cool down the
water if placed on top of the filter cartridge where water would pass over
it.

Any advice is appreciated!

I would just keep the temperature from dropping that much at night- a
constant 80-82ºF would be better than daily fluctuations IMO.

I've had my eclipse running since March and have noticed fluctuations in
temp I think on average 4-6 degrees (74/76-80/82F). That's under
"controlled" circumstances - I sort of learned to keep the lid open
during the day and closing it at night during the colder months, and
leaving the lid open 24hr during summer. Sorta keeps it more stable that
way. ie. the tank doesn't overheat or get too cold. It seems the cause
of the fluctuation is in part the impeller/light heating the tank during
the day. Everyone seems happy and healthy. The only time I saw someone
looking a little unhappy was when the temp dropped down to 72F last
week. I guess that's my signal that it's getting cooler and I need to
keep the lid down at night. I think my betta is a bit happier in the
upper 70 range. I'm going to see how he handles it this winter before I
break out the heater. My heater is still sitting in the box from last
March when I bought it. I haven't yet gotten over my paranoia of
submerging electrical things in water. Not to mention tales of runaway
heaters :)
