Hello,

I have a beta male for about 3 months now. He was very active. I have
him mated with female beta twice. First time i had fungus in my mating
tank and beta ate all the eggs. Second time, i used Maroxy. Male beta
was taking care of the fries coming out of the eggs. There were about
20-30 fries. He was working hard for 2 days to keep the fries from
falling but his nest was very week. In the end he just stopped working
and sit in the bottom of the tank. I guess he ate all the fries. I
could survive one, and its about 3 week old.

While i was transfering male from breeding tank to a separate tank, he
jumped out and fell on the carpet and i had to pick him up and put
back in the tank. I treated him with Maroxy and Melafix. My male even
after a 3 week time moves very little, just to get air. Doesnt make
bubble nest. He is eating fine though. Basically has lost all his zest
and lives at the bottom of the tank supporting himself at the base or
plant.

Can someone tell me whats wrong and how can i treat him ?

Thank you in advance.

Mine is like that, I think he is just old, but he's been like it
for ages. He still builds a (small) nest - only if there is something
floating on the top for it to stick to, like a thermometer or I
guess something like the plastic tube from a biro, that kind of
size. I am not sure what is safe to add to the tank and what isn't.

I was also concerned about water quality, but actually he seems
happier when I do the changes less often; he seems to be more settled
in a tank where less happens, so I am as uninvasive as possible.
Just syphoning water in and out through a tube is enough to
unsettle him. He also seems happier in a tank with no meds,
so I would resist the temptation to chuck more meds at him
unless he has a disease which needs it, of course. Away with
"General tonic" etc!

I also put the tank next to the one with the female in it; sometimes
he bothers to get up and flare at her.

Finally I noticed he loved the hot weather and was more active
when his tank was around 28-30C even though I didn't really intend
it to get that high.

I'm by no means an expert on bettas, these are just a few
observations that might give you food for thought.

Wasn't my reply any good?

Ok then, what's happened in the interim? It's been a few days,
how is he looking now?
