Since I have been subsribed to these groups I have had about 5 emails
containing the W32.Swen.A@mm virus and each one was posing as Microsoft so
this is just a liitle bit of advice for everyone try and disguise your email
address in your posts to save people logging your email address and selling
it on

Most people have used spam traps in their address for years...

I am receiving the same problem from 1000's of people in stupid names. do
you know how I can disguise my address? (its too late now but it is handy to
know!)

When you set up the news account, in the field that requires your email
address, use one of these options:

1: Put in a fake address.

2: Open up a "spam trap" account, usually a hotmail account, as Hotmail is
already famous for recieving spam, thereby protecting you main account from
the spam.

3: "Mung" your real address, ie, . Any human
would know to remove the "nospam", whereas an automated addy harvester
wouldn't.

I wouldn't bet the farm on that, It is a trival problem to use awk or sed to
remove NOSPAM from your address. So how about this, the automated addy
harvester outputs to a text file the addresses it finds, then one run a
script using sed to whack the NOSPAM leaving good address.

use,
"take off mypants to reply"

in some cases, it'll be
losemynumber.col.co.uk
losemynumber
or
"mydrawers"
drop my drawers to reply

Good call - I've been saying that for years. The "NOSPAM" munge is nothing
more than a panacea, as it is easily compensated for by text filters.

I finally had to change my account email address here recently, as I
got over !800! over the course of a few days, all pertaining to
Microsoft and all containing attachments. Thank goodness my
boyfriend, who is computer savy, told me Do Not Open! It took forever
to delete them and I had to change my entire account to prevent
receiving anymore.

That is just TOO cute! LOL. Does it really work? I've been getting lots
of those, too, saying they're from Microsoft. They have quit now, except
for the odd one. Once I put the sender in my blocked list, they stopped
coming.

Suggest you look up the meaning of "panacea".
