View Full Version : Need advice on second filter

I have a 4' tank with lots of plants and assorted community freshwater fish.
It has an eclipse-type filter built into the hood, which simply doesnt do
the job--the water is clear, but still has bits floating around in it. Id
like to add an internal filter but am also planning on adding CO2 in the
near future. So I want to check with you folks that an internal filter is
suitable, and seek recommendations on a brand that doesnt tie me into buying
expensive propriety filter media.

yep should be ok. How much in volume (litres/gallons) does your
tank hold?

280 litres (76 US gallons)
I'm concerned that the additional agitation will negate the CO2

I'd certainly suggest another filer. Probably at the other end of the tank.
If you're worried about C02, then get a Co2 injection system.

Im considering a Milwaukee Regulator for that.
Ive never taken any notice of internal filters before now, so dont really
have any knowledge of what is good and bad. Anyway, will google it and find
out.

Great minds think alike--Ive been searching internal filters for about an
hour now and the Fluval 4+ seems to be the right option for me. So with the
benefit of your recommendation I will buy one online right now. Thanks for
your assistance.

Doubt it. Probably do the same thing.
The thing I like with the Fluval 4 Plus is that it if you
install it so the outlet is about 1cm below the water line
you get a lot of turbulence. You can also have it pump air
if you like, instead of just a current.
Someone on the freshwater.goldfish forum suggested it to me.
and I'm grateful they did. It didn't cost too much either.
