Hi All: My wife bought 2 new Beta Fish. The Bowls are more like vases
and The neck is small. I can see that it is going to be difficult to
get a net in there to remove the fish for cleaning and it has to be
done on two bowls. Are there any suggestions on how to make this
easier and less tramatic on the fish. Seems like it must scare them to
be scooed up with a net and dumped into a temporary jar while their
bowl is being cleaned.

1) Get larger containers for them.
[channeling for tynk]
2) You'll find a lot more information by spelling their name "betta".
3) A really good website to start with is www.bettatalk.com
Enjoy!

Hi there. = )
Your wife bought 2 Bettas, not Betas. Their name is pronounced "bet-uh", not
"bait-uh"...just so you know. = )
As for the vases...they'd be better off with flowers in them or up on a shelf
somehwere waiting for fresh flowers..hint hint. = )~
Bettas do best in tanks that are at least a gallon in size and that are heated.
Hard to do in a vase.
The perfect tanks (IMO) are Eclipse system 3...a 3 gallon. There's also the 2
gallon Explorer, but those don't come with a light.
The tanks are a great size for them, and the motor for the filter keeps the
tank warm.
If you can't do the tanks, at least get them a gallon bowl/vase. Some of the
vases I've seen Bettas in are terribly small.
Do these Betta vases have Lily plants in them too?
If so, plant it out in the yard next Spring, but for now a pot with dirt will
do fine.
Bettas should be fed 2 x's daily (small amounts). Something like Hikari brand's
Betta Bio Gold is a great food for Bettas that aren't kept in filtered tanks.
The water doesn't get nasty as fast. Frozen Bloodworms are also a great food.
Stay away from a lot of freeze dried foods, such as freeze dried Bloodworms or
Tubifex worms, as it can cause constipation.
