Greetings,

I can't seem to find any fish store that carries (or even heard of)
"Crossocheilus siamensis" in Southern California (Orange County) area.

Does anyone here know where I can locate one?

Thanks,
Shawn

See your previous thread where you've got some answers.

Please stop shouting (caps) and please be patient... people answer
when they can, you know!

Keep an eye out for this fish being sold under various common names:
Siamese Algae Eater (SAE), Flying Fox, Chinese Algae Eater, or any
combination of those... I'm sure there are other names used as
well...

You might also try printing out this page and taking it with you:

Worst case, you may have to order them online...

Shawn, SAEs are indeed hard to come by in So. Cal. I have seen them
in a couple of shops but in both cases they were not for sale. You
can order them online at the link below...good luck!!

Shawn,

I lived in San Diego until recently, and found SAE's occasionally at a shop
called Fountains Aquarium in La Mesa. Some of their staff did know what they
are. Some did not. Often you would find one or two SAE's in a tank otherwise
full of flying foxes. I bought one from them I found mixed in with the
foxes. The staff memeber helping me did not recognize the difference, but
obliged me in my request for having "that fish there".

Their website is here. http://fountainsaquarium.com/

It's a bit far for you to go, but if you have no luck otherwise, you might
call them and see if they have any in stock.

Shawn, I found SAEs this last weekend at Tropical Reef in Torrance.
They must have had 15 or 20, relatively small, but they definitely
were the true SAEs, no doubt about it. This is a very good LFS that
specializes mostly in marine but the fish they have are all first
rate. Good store.

But you certainly don't want to buy from anybody who confuses these
entirely different species of fish. If some LFS gives you "they're all
the same", show them your back.

Human rights in Cuba: 600 prisoners held 18 months and more,
without charge, without bail, without counsel, facing trial by
secret special tribunals with power to impose the death
penalty. And that's just one place. Guantanamo.

Think about how many knowledgeable people in the aquaria NGs don't
know the difference. I don't think that ignorance or confusion is
enough to get me to not patronize a fish store. Heck, it's hard
enough just finding an LFS these days. Just about any LFS is
preferable to a pet store, IMO... Besides the confusion between
these fish are not limited to retailers. Wholesalers/distributers
aren't helping the matter, from what I've heard...

This is a decent drive and tolerable. I will make the trip and look for
myself.

Thanks,
Shawn
