Just got a new PC and I can't figure out how to get in to these groups.
I have been using my webtv for this thing for years now but would like
to learn how to do it on my pc. Also I would like to set up a no spam
addy. Any help would be great.

When in the process, you are asked for your email address, just enter a fake
address, or add "NOSPAM" somewhere in it.

Or you could break the Microsoft addiction cycle by downloading Mozilla
and using its email and newsreader features.

I second that. Go to mozilla.org and download their newsreader, called
Thunderbird or the whole suite called Mozilla.

Remember my son, the first step is admitting you have a problem...

Good, free newsreader: http://nnr.freeservers.com/
Good, free email: http://www.pmail.com/
Good, free email pre-viewer: http://www.mailwasher.net/
There are others, some just as good or better, some free or low-cost,
but I got on well with these after much frustration with MS Outlook.
Best of luck,
Maggie

To say I am frustrated with outlook would be an understatement. I had
no trouble downloading microsoft newsgroups but could not do any from
ALT or REC. What is the actual addy for these sites because if I put
rec.aquaria.freshwater.misc I get a "can not be found" message on my
screen. If I use my info key on my webtv I get "this newsgroup is part
of MSN" but I can not find it on the msn list.

I kow what you mean about Outlook--I think Bill Gates must
be heavily invested in Roagaine (as well a Malox and Prozac).
You MAY be having your problems because your ISP doesn't
carry REC and ALT groups (they just block them all becuase
of the more...uh...exotic groups, rather than pick and choose).
If that's the case, I'm sure someone out there can point you
to a free newserver which carriess all the aquaria groups,
(even alt.aquaria.nuns.and.parrotfish). hth

make sure you have your news server entered correctly and it is the default
server in Tool-Accounts-News (properties-general/server/connection)
in the Newsgroups window, in the box that says "Display Newsgroups which
contain:" type;
rec aqu misc
(just like that) that will bring up every group that has those characters in it.
once you do find it, double click it or right-click then hit "subscribe" (that
will keep it in your folders area so you wont have to go through that again.)

Ok I have downloaded thunderbird but I don't know what the NNTP is for
this group. It is not the same as the URL here (at least I don't think
it is because news:rec.aquaria.freshwater.misc does not work)
Help........
