I've had about 8 smaller goldfish in a really big tank (250 litres)
with lots of plants. Last week, I bought a new goldfish, much bigger
than the other ones. This weekend, I got up and 1 of the slower small
goldfish had lost an eye. This evening when I got home, another
goldfish had lost an eye. This looks very cruel, although the fish
seem to be okay and the wound is clean. I think it is the new, big
fish that is eating the eyes. My question is : how can I prevent it
from happening again?

Remove the larger fish. Simple. You can't "train" a fish to do much, and
he's not likely to stop. Take him back to the store, tell them it's
incompatable with your existing fish. Any decent LFS will do this, and give
you store credit, providing the fish is still healthy.

Goldfish are really vegetarian, and not usually that aggressive,
so I doubt your new guy is munching eyeballs. Two things
come to mind:
1. There is something with sharp edges in your tank,
either gravel or a decoration. Has your new, bigger
guy upset your decor, turned something over or
exposed something that was covered?
2. You may have an ongoing popeye infection. This is
usually gradual and progressive so you should notice
the eye bulging several days prior to loss, so I think
this unlikely.

Good luck

It's all harmless fun until someone loses an eye!

I believe you.

I've had an eye eating fish also - although it wasn't a goldfish.

I've still got an ancient angel with just one eye - and it is the goldfish
that always have a munch on him.

I got rid of the original culprit.
