View Full Version : What do you feed shrimps?

I caught half a dozen shrimps in a small tank. They have managed to stay
alive for about six weeks now and I am getting quite fond of them - they are
quite fascinating.

I just throw in a concoction of stuff that I feed to my other fish and they
must be finding something in the mixture that they can eat.

Does anyone else keep any shrimps?

If so, what do you feed them and what other tips do you have?

Congrats on keeping shrimps alive. I only have mixed results with mine.
They seem to eat most everything, including each other, so bottom-feeding
scavenger would probably be a good description for them. I think the
'dirtier' the tank (with vegetation in various states) the better off
they are.

I just bought another filter-feeding species, they called it "blue
gabon" or something like that. I have good luck with my shrimp, except
for the ones that get eaten :(
I don't feed them anything special, but they all seem happy. Females are
gravid most of the time, but I have yet to see any babies around. I keep
ghost shrimp (those are the ones that get eaten the most), amano shrimp,
red cherry shrimp, singapore shrimp, and this new one I got today.
My tanks are heavily planted, so there's plenty of food around.

I just ordered some bumblebee shrimp. I'm trying to set up a bio-tope
for them, but I think shrimp exist almost everywhere.
