Have 4 clown loaches in with other fish in a 75 G. tank. I've had the
loaches for around 9 months.
Earlier this week one of the four loaches starting acting not well. He's
been laying on his side on the bottom of the tank (which isn't unusual) but
he appears to be gasping/panting very rapidly and deliberately. He's curled
to one side (like a U, but not that pronounced). He doesn't move much and
has behaved in this way for about 36 hours. He appears to be bloated. None
of the other fish seem to be behaving unusually.
I can't really see much about him that appears unusual other than the above.
He does have one discolored place on his "back" that might be something
growing on him. I haven't introduced any new fish in about a month.
My only guess is that perhaps this is velvet. In light of that I've
isolated him to another tank by himself and started treating him with some
medicine for Ich/Velvet.
Can anyone suggest another ailment that this might be? Anyone have any
ideas on something I should do treatment-wise other than what I've done?
I've brought fish through Ich before without much difficulty. None of them
have ever been behaving as sickly as this guy appears to be. I don't want
to lose him, so any helpful hints would be appreciated.
