View Full Version : Airstone to big?

I have a 10 gallon tank with 4 tetras and 1 cory. Unfortunately, I had a
swordtail that died. Well, I went and got an air pump and airstone 6". It
seems like a heck of a lot of bubbles. Is the stone too big?

Thanks in advance.

What type of filter do you have in this tank?

It's one of those external waterfall type filters. It came with the tank.
The tetras and catfish seem to be doing fine with the wall of bubbles. :)

Ok, I had to ask because I wasn't sure if you didn't have a filter and were
just using an airstone, or both.
Thanks for clearing that up.
Whether or not a 6" airstone is considered to large, would be your personal
taste.
I think they make a nice bubble wall when put in the middle, against the back
wall.
The rising bubbles makes for nice surface O2 exchange.
If the pump is larger than needed, it may have a lot of force, but that can be
easily fixed by using a gange valve to release some of the air pressure.

Thank you so much for clearing that up. Now I understand.

I got the smallest pump I could find, so I think I'm doing okay. I've seen
the tetras swimming through the bubbles so now I know that it really isn't
too much turbulence for them, which is what I was worried about. I really
like the bubble wall, as well. It's fun. :)

I can't wait for my tank to cycle completely because the tetras are getting
restless and sparring. One has taken over the tank completely. I know I
need to get more fish in there to make the shoal, but can't do that just
yet. I hope they don't kill eachother.

Thanks,
