Are there such things as battery powered aquarium heaters? If so, where can
you find them online?
Thanks,
Lydia

AFAIK, no. It's not a very practical device to power-backup due to its
high current requirements. Lead acid batteries would do it, but not your
garden variety alkalines.

Not really. In case of a power outage, keeping the water warm is the least
of your worries.

I don't know for a fact that they don't exist, comma but...
Heaters use up (relatively) a lot of power. With a reasonably large UPS
for computer usage, you might get 8 hours of heat with a 75W heater...
If you're thinking AA or even D cells... Probably ain't happening for
anything longer than a couple of hours...
If you can stand car-size batteries, the answer might be a bit
different...

I suppose you could hook up a deep-cycle battery (aka, trolling motor battery)
and an inverter. Useful as a short-term means of powering the heater (and,
more importantly, the filter pump).
If you're talking a long-term thing, ain't no such beast -- heaters are serious
power pigs.

I don't know if they exist but they would be a good idea as a backup for
power failures and such.

Um, for your garden variety power outage, wrapping the tank with a
blanket will do amazingly well, heat wise.
A UPS will do well enough for filters and air pumps...
Me? I've got 5000W of Honda in my garage. Unfortunately somebody needs
to be home to start it.
