Hi
I just bought two pieces of driftwood off of ebay and they are sun bleached,
freshwater, dried, hand cleaned (no dirt chunks), and nature cured. The
seller is in Golden, BC so I assume that they are either river or lake
driftwood. Is there any thing I should worry about with them or should I
just prepare them? Also I've read lots and people seem to have lots of
differing opinions when it comes to preparing driftwood - boiling, soaking
in bleech or salt, running through the dishwasher. I'm looking to make sure
I'm not introducing anything nasty, hopefully not have them float and not
turn the water the color of tea.
Thanks
JHudson

Items are these if anyones interested..

Yup, lots of people have different opinions on what to do ;o)

Perhaps here's a different idea for you. Decide what to do by what it
does.

Drop them in a 5g tank with some small inexpensive fish. If the water
turns dark, do water changes. If it still stays dark, then you might
need to boil it. If the fish croak, you might want to boil it. If the
fish are fine and the water is reasonable, then you are good to go.

I bet your problem will not be tannic acids (the pieces look too bleached
already), or pathogens (dehydration kills most aquatic bugs) but
buoyancy. It might take a while to get them waterlogged enough to sink.
Slate and some stainless steel screws might be an option.
