Hi all
I have just changed the white pad in my juwel filter and with the few bits
floating in the water after doing so I noticed a small, white worm swimming
around. It must have come from the filter when it was disturbed. Does anyone
know what this worm could be and is it harmful to my fish.
Another question is that on close examination of my plants in my tank I
noticed many fine like hairs growing on them. Is this normal and if not what
causes this and how do i correct it.
As you can probably tell I am new to the fish thing, my tank is 180 litres,
the temp is 25 c and has been running about a month. I only have 3 fish in
it at present, 2 pygmy puffers and a clown loach.
If anyone could shed some light I would be greatful.

Many thanx
Caz

Planaria probably, from the family nemotodia (in case you wanted to
research it). Planaria might be a sign of overfeeding, but they are
basically harmless for your application.

Sounds like algae. Don't be alarmed. There are about a dozen types of
algae common in home aquariums. All but a few are plants which will not
cause any direct harm. Some can be a nuisance, but most are expected to
occur. Many fish eat some types. Algae is also useful for hiding tiny
creatures which baby fish eat. http://faq.thekrib.com/algae.html

I recommend a good book to help cover a lot of the basics. Reinforce
this information with what is on the internet and from newsgroups, though
neither is a substitute for a good book.
