Hi!

I bought I large java fern today. The LFS put it in a bag with no water, and
air to keep the plant from being crushed.

I then went to do some christmas shopping, went to a restuarant for a meal,
went to another LFS to pick up a tank, and then to a nursery a fair drive
from the city for more shopping. All together it was about 5 hours from I
picked up the plant til I got back home. I then put the Java fern in a tank
to keep it alive until I get to set up the new tank tomorrow. An hour later
I noticed I had a new fish in the tank! A pleco had hitched a ride with the
plant! Just a plain pleco - but obiously one that had decided not to go to
fish heaven just yet! :D

Tough guy hey!

I was cleaning the deco in one of my 120G tanks and 2 hours later found my
6" pleco still inside one of the caves in a dry bucket. He was sure happy
to get back to the tank.

LOL

Mine seems fine though, he's going about his business with vigor - maybe be
had a after death experience and is appreciating life even more :)

I knew gouramis and bettas can handle being without water for a long time,
but never knew Plecos could too... I remember the perils of your pleco
though - you bad bad man LOL fancy doing that to your pleco! I know you feel
terrible about the whole thing though, so I shouldn't tease you :) Great
fish isn't it - i've fallen utterly and completely in love with them!

I rarely see mine lately. Just like kids, this one seems to be going to
teenage. For the longest time, it was out and about running around like a
child. Now he just stays in his room and hides. He must have a TV, Phone,
and Stereo in there, I never see him.

Do I sound like a Parent yet?

The can also handle extreme heat. We had a 5 gal. with guppies that
the heater stuck on, literally cooked the fish. We thought all was
lost in it but when we were scooping the dead ones out, we noticed
that the only thing in the tank still moving was the plecos. Put him
in another tank and still doing fine a month later.

I have heard of Pl*c's being in tanks where everything died from Ammonia
problems, but the pleco..My "Ugly" has moved from cold tanks ( water around
50F to as warm as 88F ) I have moved him through 4 or 5 tanks in the last
year... Typically scooping "Ugly" up in a net and then putting Pl*c into a
different tank without floating him in a bag... ( I have no bags to fit him
into anyways ).. Yeah... tough...

Whenever I do a water change I look carefully in my "bucket" of dirty water.
Often I will find a small bristlenose that has gone through the siphon hose.
I just scoop him out and dump him into whichever tank needs a bristlenose.

The bristlenose never seems to suffer any harm.

I have lose many fish - more than most people I guess - but the only times I
have lost any bristlenose have been:
1. Curious bristlenose sucked into filter
2. I installed a UGF into a tank while it was full of fish. The Corydoris
were hard to get out of the way, but the Bristlenose were impossible. I
still wonder whether I have a couple of Bristlenose living in the dark
depths beneath my UGF.
3. I am sure a few Bristlenose babies have gone down the sink after a water
change. Fortunately after watching finding Nemo I now realise that all
drains lead to the ocean and now I don't feel quite so guilty.

That's how I started with this hobby, I inherited a tank from an older child
moving out. A couple pl*cos, a couple snails, a few guppies, water you
couldn't see through (at all). Went through a cycling issue that was OFF the
charts (unless anybody has an ammonia kit with the color BLACK), 50% water
changes dailey for a week...

.... still got the pl*cos. He's enjoying the NEW tankmates... :)

Yes, you do. As a parent of a 13 yr old, you forgot to mention dvd or vcr, PS2
or GameCube or XBox, guitar... don't look at me, he makes good money delivering
newspapers... :) Have I frightened any potential parents yet?

Just bought a 180 All Glass aquarium, got a great deal on it. It came
with a magnum 350 filter. Mike the guy I bought the tank from took
the tank down on saturday the day I picked it up and had used the
magnum to drain the tank. I got the tank home on saturday and was
kind of beat and didn't mess with it until sunday afternoon, well I
started by cleaning the dirty magnum filter and I found what I thought
was a dead minnow, but when I went to pick him up out of the sink he
started flipping around, I was stunned, figgured what the heck and put
him in a bowl and it is now tuesday and he's still alive. There
wasn't a lick of water in that filter I figure at least a good 24
hours!!!
