View Full Version : What to do with bio-wheel
December 20th 03, 09:58 PM
Hi--I am switching to a power head for my tank while for about 2 weeks--I have a simple and probably
silly question. I use a bio-wheel filter whcih I will turn off for about 2 weeks--is there any way I
can keep the healthy bacteria on the wheel alive? Sticking it in the tank? My tank is fully cycled
for a year. NOt using the bio-wheel will not lose me all the good bacteria and have to re-cycle my
tank will it?
Thanks

If your tank has been running well for a year, then you'll have
beneficial bacteria all over the place. Removing the biowheel won't
have a huge impact, and certainly won't force you to re-cycle.
But why would you turn off the biowheel at all?

Really, the BIO wheel is such a good filter, and quiet, I would suggest
adding a power head to an UGF but not to replace a bio wheel.
