I have the python and It works great. The main problem is if you use the
python to fill the tank you're introducing chlorinated water directly to the
aquarium and will kill off all your bacteria and harm the fish. Make sure
you fill a bucket then treat the water then add it to the tank.

I use a python and it is excellent. Make sure it has a brass fitting for the
faucet(the newer ones do). When I add water , I also add decholrinator (amquel)
and the fish are fine. No need to use buckets. You can save money (python is
expensive) - if you get the equivalent- which is a waterbed changer ( at
wallmart) and a garden hose.

comment on the python(or equivalent) -
After draining water (and some crud) from the aquarium - don't fill right away
- run water thru the hose into the sink - so the water in the hose is clear -
otherwise you can put back some of the same crud you took out! When folding the
hose up - make sure all water is out - otherwise the siphon may not start so
easily next time .
With the Python - make use of the stopcock - close it before removing from the
gravel - so no gravel gets sucked up - then open it and place it in a different
part of the gravel.

A friend of mine has a Python, works fine .
I have a Lee's water changing hose. It works fine too .
The main question is , which is cheaper ?
I don't know about using it for waterbeds though ...

Go to Lowes and buy some 5/8" clear hose, 1/2" pvc and fittings to
make a "U" to hang on the tank. I have a fitting that screws into my
faucet in the hall bath for filling, just regulate the water temp gong
back into the takn with some hot water if necessary and while
refilling add your chemicals, I use Prime, right into the tank and go.
I also drain my water out into the bath tub. The pythons are expensive
and waste way to much water. I do my 21 tanks every 2 weeks and it
works great.

The Lee's and Python both use the same device...a device that was originally
developed and used for years for filling and draining waterbeds. When the
filler for my python broke, I busted out my foster & SMith catalog, and
nearly crapped myself at the cost for a new one. Went to walmart and got a
"Waterbed drain & fill kit" for a couple bucks and just threw away the
bottle of "waterbed conditioner".
