Hi _ Apologies if this sounds so naive - my Angels have laid eggs on a broad
leave plant and are chasing other fish away - can I cut off the leave and
drop it into another aquarium and expect the eggs to hatch?
TIA - Dave

Depends on whether you want to chance the parents raising the fry or not.
Angels are very prone to eating their eggs especially if they are young and
inexperienced. Most aquarists that I know that want the fry remove the eggs
and place them in another container with some meth blue and an airstone with
the pressure turned down. You only want a little water movement over the
eggs. Angels that do not eat their eggs and raise the fry are a joy to watch
however in your case the fry will not survive in a community tank for long
so it's remove the eggs or the other fish.

I'm a newbie too and discovered the same thing tonight... angel eggs
on a piece of slate and 2 very protective parents trying to fight off
an algae eater scarfing up the eggs. I took the slate out and put it
in a little hospital tank (the kind that sits in the regular tank) and
so far I haven't been able to set up air but I plan to tomorrow. What
is meth blue? I don't have any of that.
Thanks for any help.

methyelene or as my bottle is labeled "Methyblue" which is used as an anti
fungus agent. Add enough drops to change the water colour to slightly blue.
You will need air movement over those eggs asap. If you left the eggs in the
tank you would have noticed the Angel fish constantly swimming over the
piece of slate fanning the eggs with their fins. The air should not be too
strong which may require that you put a small air volume reducer in line
from the pump to the stone. Temp of you tank should be about 80-82 degrees.
Good luck.

Thanks for all of your responses, however events have now overtaken and the
eggs have been eaten. My experience is limited and my Angels are not yet
mature, therefore this is a learning experience for them and me! Currently
the Angels are in a 400 litre aquarium and I may leave them for another few
months while they mature and then move them to a 130 litre.
Thanks for your help. - Dave

Hi Laura - What's the development now that you've moved the slate to the
hospital tank?
Thanks - Dave
