View Full Version : CRAZY Zebra

I have just setup a new tank (20g) with 5 Zebras. All but one are about the
same size (2cm) the other one is about 2.5cm and after day two has become
aggressive to the other 4 fish. It also charges around the tank like it's on
steroids :-)
It's so bad the other four fish have started 'hiding'.
Any reasons for this?
Thanks

I hope they are Zebra danios and not one of the many other fish with the
name Zebra (like Pseudotropheus zebra). Often, in any fish community,
one fish sits at the top of the pecking order in a tank. This 'king' can
be benevolent or he can be a tyrant (and yes, it's usually a 'he'). You
need to use your discretion as to whether human intervention is required.
Are the others being damaged, prevented from eating, situation worsening
etc etc? If the others are not being damaged, then the usual routine is
to give them some time to see if they can work it out. After a week or
so, your decision will be easier to make. Some options are to put the
tyrant into isolation for a while or return/trade him into the LFS.
That's just MHO.
ps: charging around can also be indicative of poor water quality. Keep
an eye on your water parameters.

Thanks for the suggestions. 'He' IS a Zebra Danio. Water quality/composition
is just about perfect.
Thinking back, I gave them a little blood worm about 2-3 hours before his
'crazy' spell started; that was Yesterday/ Today, he seems to be better
although he still chases the others away from any feed put in the tank.
As these fish are in the tank for cycling, he will get a shock in a week or
so when I add more fish :-)
Thanks again
