I have recently opened an aquarium supply store at www.whalesale.com and I
am seeking your opinions.
Please let me know what you think on the setup of the store, prices, the
products currently carried, and what products I should add to the store
Please post your opinions on this newsgroup

nice start, but IMNSHO, I'd junk FrontPage and get something better....
<meta name="GENERATOR" content="Microsoft FrontPage 5.0">

Alot of the larger companies start out making their own pages... until
if/when they hit it big, updating the site will take 4 hours a day, the more
items, the more updating.... it ends up being a 12 person job JUST for the
website...they use stylesheets, one basic look for every page...
Here's my suggestion, from experience...
If you have a building, or warehouse, here's an idea... but it's costly...
Software needed - installed on an already running backend...
Inventory control software handles how many of what
Database - for inventory
Accounts Rec/Pay software
IE6.x
you can use your server software to do everything... Keep inventory, post
that inventory on your website, when you add a product to inventory, it's
already added to the website, so no double duty, also, users pay directly
thru the site, to your merchant acct, item is automatically taken from
inventory, and the new idea is to have a UPS acct setup and ported into your
server, so they calculate your shipping and all you do is box it, print a
label and UPS is notified they have a package to pickup... see how the nice
little circle works??
I helped a friend setup a small shop in my town several months ago, even
more simple with a barcode reader package and a database that was up and
running....
As for your site, keep it up, change it, add stuff... have fun....

Heres my current setup
I am using the yahoo ecommerce package
I have a ups connection to my store for calculating shipping costs. I am
planning at a future date to get ups to pickup at my location but I am not
yet making enough sales to get a ups account yet.
I will be adding that as I get rolling.
I am using access for the database chores uploading the file to my store.
What do you reccomend as a accts rec/pay software?
What would you use instead of front page?
why?

Front Page for a web page editor is fine, just junk out the standard
template and do a little creative design on your own. The FrontPage
templates are a fine starting point, but they are all so generic and blasé.

Sounds like you're on a good start... don't get discouraged if it takes a
bit... most pple/business dont' take this big of a leap until they HAVE
to.... you're ahead of the game so far...
I'll check with my friend to see the POS/Inv software he installed, it was
pretty simple, on the tip of my tongue.... keep thinking rabbit or bunny
something... I think it had a rabbit on the box...
I'll get back to you on this....
