RO Water

Is it a good idea in a planted tank or any freshwater tank to use R/O water
if one has access to it? I know for a marine tank it is recommended but
what about freshwater?

Depends on what you are keeping. Its a good idea for things like discus but
not suitable for fish that like harder water. For a general community tank
its probably overkill unless you have particularly horrid water coming out
your tap (!)

I have Discus and neons and they do benefit from R/O water. Depends on
what you are keeping. If you are keeping African cichlids dont think about
R/O, it will cost you a lot to harden it again. It comes out very very
soft, 1 DKH, and very very pure, nitrate free, also very acid ph about 6 .
To mimic the habitat of discus and neons I use R/O.

If you water comes out not so good, you can think about R/O, but as I said
it will cost you to put in the minerals that it looses during filtration,
use R/O right from Kent to put in the minerals back.
