View Full Version : Home Depot buckets ... safe for aquarium use?

Are those buckets that you can buy at home depot (the ones that have the HD
logo on the outside, I think they are 5G or so) safe for use with aquariums
(ie: water change, etc.). Also does anyone now of a source for slightly
smaller buckets/containers? A 5G might be a little too big to fit under my
tank ... a 3-4G would probably be ok.
Thanks,
Harry

Sure, they are safe. Just rinse them out.
For cheap buckets, visit your local Dunkin Donuts and ask for their
used Jelly buckets. You can also get small buckets from your local
deli. The folks may charge you 50 cents or a buck and you'll have to
clean them out.

I got a 5 gal and a 20 qt. at Lowe's. The 20 qt has marks on the inside so
I know when I have a gallon or 2 so I can add my de-chlorinator w/out having
to fill the bucket up to where it will spill or to measure how much I take
out when I am cleaning. I am a newbe so I need to measure everything...

Get a 14 qt bucket from your local dollar store. Filled to the top they
come out to right around 3 gallons. For the price you can get several of
them. Also milk jugs work nice for smaller tanks. I keep about five of
them ready to go to top off my seven tanks.
