Hello everyone,

I am getting ready to purchase my 2nd tank. Currently I have a 29 gallon
lightly planted community tank and have decided to make the new one either a
40 gallon breeder or 40 gallon long. I am hesitant to get much larger than
this due mostly to weight concerns, as the only space that I have available
is right in the middle of the floor joists span and running parallel to the
joists.

I am hoping to use an AH lighting kit and have a moderately planted tank,
but still keep the fish as the focus of the tank. I am thinking either
rainbowfish or dwarf gouramis with sae, ottos and cories to help witht he
plant maintenance. Is one size more advantageous than the other? Do they
both allow the same number of fish, or would the breeder tank allow more due
to the larger surface area?

While I am asking, how many dwarf gourami's could I fit comfortably in this
tank without stressing them out. I have been loking for information on the
internet and through the archives, but can;t seem to find a lot about them
being the main fish in a tank.

Thanks for all your help,

Zach

The 40 breeder will allow for more fish as it has more surface area. On the
other hand, 40 long tanks are much more common, so it's easier to find
stands, canopies , etc. I'm still having trouble finding a good top for the
40 breeder I bought 3 years ago. All the tops I found are either flimsy
plastic or outrageously expensive.

If I knew then what I know now, I would have gone with a 40 long. Just my
opinion though;
