Hello all,

Currently have a 75G in room that faces East and gets minimal sun or even
ambient sun for that matter is its main window is slightly obscured by trees
etc, this tank has zero alagae growth and has no real plants. I am
contemplating a addition to my tanks and was thinking of getting a new 90
that would go in the West facing living room. This room does receive the
heavy sun in the afternoon, more so in the summer months(Canada, bright here
until probably 11 PM in the peak of summer). The room does have blinds that
can eliminate all the direct sunshine but still let in ambient brightness,
just not direct rays so to speak. Does anyone feel that if this was a
planted tank that I would have any serious algae concerns due to the
brighter ambient lighting? Or am i over concerned about location<G>

Thanks!

I think you are right to consider carefully where you put a large
tank. They are very hard to move once established. Heavy algae is
hard to clear once started. Perhaps a heavy shield between your tank
and the sunlight might be enough, but I would consider whether you
want to lose the view if you have to close the blinds.

My tanks are not exposed to outside light, but I still control the
hours of light including shutting the lights down mid day to control
algae.
