View Full Version : Any Eheim 2128 owners? / "Special Control Module"

I just got my Eheim 2128 in the mail. The box containing the thermo
control unit (LCD box where you can set what temperature you want the
tank to be), had this written on it:
Attention: For use with the EHEIM professional system the standard
thermo control unit can be exchanged for a special control module.
Please send the new standard thermo control unit in this carton and this
envelope for exchange free of charge to the EHEIM company. Please stamp
sufficiently! Do not forget the sender's address!
Anyone know what's "special" about the replacement (does it show
Fahrenheit maybe? :)?
I wonder if it's free anyway, why they change the boxes to print that
message but not just start giving out the new one. Asking me to send a
critical part of my new (expensive) filter that I just got (and want to
play with) back to Germany is kinda disappointing.

I believe that the modified part is specifically for Ehiem hoods. Just set
up your existing kit and enjoy it.

Yes. Eheim marketed a range of fish tanks with stands and hoods
under the name "MP aquaria". I don't think they still do. (At least,
I can no longer find any mention on their web site.) At any rate,
the MP tanks have special slots in the hood that accommodate
a pH and temperature control unit. So, the offer for a replacement
control unit is simply for a unit that does exactly the same thing as
the one you have, but has a housing that is shaped slightly differently
to fit into the module system of the MP tanks.

No, no such evil thing happening :-) Most people who buy a thermo
filter don't have the special MP tank, so they pack the standard control
unit with every filter. If you have an MP tank, you can swap the unit
for the one with the special shape that fits the MP tank, that's all.
Cheers,
Michi.
