View Full Version : Low Light Plants

I just posted two pictures of my 75 and 29 gallon tanks in
"alt.binaries.aquaria".
Both have less than 2 watts per gallon lighting. All of the plants
are also supposed to be comfortable in that range:
Java
Vallisneria
Anubias Lanceolata
Anubias Frazeri
Anubias Barteri
Anubias Congensis
Cryptocoryne Lutea
Wendtii-red Cryptocoryne

Sorry you aren't getting them.

This was my first attempt to post pictures so I am no help.

Thanks, but that's alright. You can always send them to me at
, but you would be competing with the spam for
space, and the spam is pretty quick at filling my inbox. I'm also on
dial-up, so I'm choosey about what large files I'll d/l. I wonder if
anyone else had trouble getting your pictures from the binaries
newsgroup. You might be able to see them, even if they were not
uploaded, as they reference files on your drive.
I once had a 100g tank filled with an assortment of plants. I don't
recall the details, as it was about 30 years ago, but I remember that I
used scissors to trim the Vals periodically because I had no surface area
for the flake food to float. There is probably nothing unique about
this, except that I only had one 40w bulb, so it was getting 0.4w/g !!
Fortunately, I didn't know that I needed high light back then ;~)
I'm not suggesting anyone try this. It did take about a year for the
Vals to reach that stage, and then they were getting their light right at
the surface.

I posted them again, then I did a retrieval. I only download headers,
then choose which ones I want to retrieve. I definitely see the files
downloading, not going to my file location. The retrieved files go to
a different folder under Agent.
I am surprised that they are not available to you. The mysteries of
the internet.
I won't bulge your email more. I use a presample program to get a
small sample of each email, then I can select to delete or blacklist
or add to "friends" list. Helpful, but I always worry I am going to
delete something I should have read.
I hope the government or industry can find an fix for this spam
problem.

I have plants that look similar, each attached to the stem, but then
quite different. One is more fern like with narrow leaves. A second
grow tall, maybe 10 inches with wider leaves growing in bunches. Then,
I have a third group that stay close to the gravel, but have the
bunched wide leaves. They all unique compared to anubias. They have
grown slowly, but are sturdy now that the Black Hair Algae has been
beaten.
Can anyone supply distinguishing names?
